KiwiRail Risk Assessments

MWH has undertaken a range of risk assessment projects for KiwiRail including a study of selected deep culverts and high embankments taking into account catchment characteristics and potential flood flows to confirm what downstream infrastructure may be at risk.

The MWH team generated a prototype MS Excel-based Tool which implements and demonstrates the application of an Integrated Risk Management (IRM) methodology that enables risks associated with different asset and hazard types (Bridges, Tunnels, Culverts, Slopes and Floods) to be assessed on a common scale. Having established a common risk scale it is then possible to prioritise work and budgets across the different vulnerable assets as well as assess the balance of costs versus benefits of different asset improvements.

Grain Corp Project Regneration

MWH was engaged by GrainCorp as their owner’s engineer for the delivery of selected  rail infrastructure projects for their Project Regeneration. MWH are responsible for the civil, track and signalling elements in delivering stakeholder interface and management across New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland, reviewing project information and previous studies, site visit and inspection, managing site investigation works, producing feasibility and optioneering design, concept design and detailed design, preparing tender documents including specification and scopes of work, preparing budget estimates, providing tender support, rail specific risk assessments, track infrastructure investigation and general rail project delivery support.

Gold Coast Light Rail

MWH provided support to the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) and TransLink from from the initial planning phase in 2006 right through to the construction phase. MWH deliverables included concept design, patronage forecasting, environmental planning, and business case development including the successful funding submission to Infrastructure Australia.

MWH then provided technical advice to TMR through the design development, the PPP tender process and into construction. At the same time, MWH undertook corridor planning for Stage Two including the connection to the heavy rail system and a southern extension. MWH deliverables included value management for the heavy rail connection, concept design, and alignment and station planning.

Wollongong City Council Dapto Level Crossing

MWH was engaged by Wollongong City Council as owners Engineer to provide specialist engineering services. MWH are responsible for the Traffic Planning and Modelling, Civil, Track and Signalling elements in Stakeholder interface and management including Sydney Trains, RMS and TfNSW, reviewing project information and previous studies, site visit and inspection, managing concept and detailed design preparing tender documents including specification and scopes of work, preparing budget estimates, providing tender support, rail specific risk assessments, and general project delivery support.
